Deductive approach originated from the natural science, where deduction is a dominating research method and laws present the basis of explanation, allow the anticipation of phenomena, predict their occurrence and hence permit them to be controlled (Collis and Hussey,2003 xy). Taking deduction approach, the researcher commences with the theory, present hypotheses ,collect data, analyses data and discover the findings and confirm or reject the hypotheses and finally confirm or revise the theory.
On the contrary, induction develops as theory through observation on the basis of the data collected, which is often qualitative. In inductive approach, the researcher may achieve the same theory which you come across in a deductive way, however, the theory would follow data rather than vice versa as with deduction(Saunders et. el.,2007 xy). Table 3.1 summarize the main differences between inductive approach and deductive approach. Please visit http://www.journalfirst.net if you are interested in essay writing.
So far, there seems rigid division between inductive approach and deductive approach, however, it could be misleading. As a matter of fact, deduction and induction can be perfectly combined in a single piece of study and it is often advantageous to do so.
