Govindan Lakshmanan was born in Tamil Nadu on June 5, 1990. The father of the boy was a farmer, and his mother was a daily wage worker. The child’s father died when he was six years old, and then his mom had to work hard to feed three children. Even in a hard time, the single parent encouraged her kid to fulfil his dream. Govindan Lakshmanan began athletic training under coach Loganathan at the age of sixteen. The mentor owns the Youth Sports Club in Pudukkottai where the emerging athlete ran barefoot on the roads of Pudukottai, and during the practice, Surya, who was the daughter of the trainer, accompanied him. In 2015, the long-distance runner won bronze in 5000 meters with his best timing of 13:35:69s and attained a silver medal in the 10,000 meters category in 29:42:81s at the Asian Championship organised in Wuhan, China. The famous sportsperson in India never looked back even after the great victory. Then in the year 2017, Govindan Lakshmanan achieved gold medals in 5000 meters and 10000 meters in the Asian Athletics Championship. Since 1993, he is the third Indian to win a gold medal at the Asian Championship. Moreover, the hard-working athlete became the first Indian to win gold medals in 5000 meters and 10000 meters in the Asian Athletics Championship with his outstanding performance. Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, and Naveen Patnaik, the Chief Minister of Odisha, rewarded 20 lakh rupees each as prize money to the athlete. In 2017, the energetic player also won a gold medal at the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in 3000 meters held in Ashgabat. The runner is employed as Havildar. With determination and hard work, Govindan Lakshmanan became a famous Indian sports player.
