Bangalore and Matka silk: The two types of popular silk fabrics
Produced from the leftover mulberry silk without eliminating the sericin. Matka silk fabric has a dull shine and rough texture, contrary to all the other pure silk available. Found in Karnataka and Kashmir, Matka silk’s spinning is done in many places like Malda, Murshidabad, and Sujapur in West Bengal, Dariapur in Gujarat, and Islampur in Bangladesh.
