Researchers should have a very good understanding of the research approaches at the beginning of the research.
In terms of the research approaches, there are two main constructs i.e. deductive approach or inductive approach. The former is a kind of 'top-down' model and the latter is a 'bottom-up' model. The two approaches have its own advantages and are suitable for different research questions and contexts. Although,generally, deductive approach are more related with positivism and quantitative research and inductive approach more linked to interpretivism(Saunders et al,2007 XY), nither approach should be thought of as better than the other.
